| Impressions of an enchanted landscape Orchards, clad in snow-white and delicately pink blossoms in spring; lush pastures, brooks murmuring merrily and a cool breeze in the woods on a hot summer’s day; later in the year the gold of the vineyards on the slopes, autumn winds that drive the dry leaves before them, and then, in winter, the crystal clear air, the first frost on the meadows by the river Kinzig and dancing snow-flakes that turn town and country into a winter fairy-tale…experience the richness of the seasons!  Gengenbach is situated at the foothills of the Black Forest. Due to the privileged climate of the area, wine and fruit has been cultivated here for centuries. The vineyards and orchards lend the countryside an almost Mediterranean feel. The largest part of the community’s land, however, is covered by woodlands. Mainly, you will find mixed forest, which turns into coniferous woods as you get higher. The river Kinzig runs right through the town and is fed by numerous small streams, as can also be seen from the names of the incorporated villages Reichenbach, Schwaibach, and Bermersbach (“Bach” meaning “little stream”). The “Gateway Communities” to the Black Forest Nature Park The “Naturpark Schwarzwald Mitte/ Nord” is the largest nature park in Germany, and the towns of the Lower Kinzig Valley, Gengenbach, Berghaupten, and Ohlsbach, are the Gateway Communities to this gorgeous landscape. In the nature park, you will find very different landscapes typical for the region and is home to a unique flora and fauna. This beautiful scenery combined with a large range of recreational offers makes for the very special flair of this environment. In this spirit, the idea for the Gateway Communities was born. These communities welcome visitors at the borders of the nature park and at the main tourist routes.
